Even though some people see a reason to purchase a device just to read a book, I don’t. Some have stated that Amazon’s Kindle is the savior of the e-book market. I don’t believe it. Others state that e-book readers will kill the book publishing industry and bring it into the 21st century. I think that’s rubbish. The fact of the matter is e-book readers will never have commercial relevance.

So I know what you’re probably thinking — “But, didn’t the AP release a story yesterday that stated Amazon’s Kindle may have ‘revolutionized the e-book market’?”. Yep. But if you read between the lines a bit, you’ll find that an important piece of the pie is missing — no one is willing to state how strong sales are and so far, the little e-book market is still extremely small.

And even though the market may be growing at an extremely slow pace as some have claimed, there’s no indication that anyone wants these toys. For years, the book has been a vessel of knowledge and entertainment for people and I simply don’t see how a small piece of plastic can change the connection people have to holding a book, flipping the pages and marking notes on the paper.

Simply put, the idea of an e-book reader is fundamentally flawed.

It has been said that there’s no such thing as a perfect game, and Bioshock is no exception. Even so, the game delivered a visceral experience all its own, and it unquestionably did many things right. One such thing was the way in which you could destroy your enemies in a multitude of ways. The experience always kept things fresh and enjoyable, and players never felt pigeonholed into one specific way of doing things.

That’s just a single reason as to why a sequel to the game is on everyone’s mind. The first one rocked — why shouldn’t the subsequent game? As luck would have it, the staff at NextGeneration caught up with 2K Marin’s creative director, Jordan Thomas, and picked his brain for some clues as to what can be expected of the game. While the interview touches upon Jordan’s early beginnings as a game designer, it’s the possible clues found throughout that might be a glimpse of further things to anticipate from the next game.

More, after the jump.

Witness the new trailer for “Darkness,” which will be part of that new Halo 3 map pack some of you’ve been waiting for. Bungie is banking on this WoW inspired sneak peek of the upcoming Legendary Maps (Avalanche, Ghost Town, and Blackout) to pry you away from those marathon (get it?) Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare matches that have taken center stage in recent weeks.

As one might envision, Bungie’s not having any of that, and are looking to reclaim that lost turf. You’ll have to wait until April 15th (pretty popular date as of late, isn’t it?) to spend your 800 Microsoft Points on this one, but there’s no reason why you can’t still enjoy the now-free Heroic pack in the meantime. Yes, there are new kids in town vying for your attention, but Halo 3 on the internet matches are still nothing to sneeze at - or have you forgotten already? Yes, you could always wait it out and get these for free somewhere down the line too, but that’s no fun. When it comes to taking your game to the on the web arena, there’s no time like the present.

iPhoneWe're not sure whether to classify this as a deal or not, but getting an iPhone for 100 EUR (about $155) sounds tempting, nevertheless. Not all is sweet, though. In order to take advantage of the “99 EUR for the 8GB iPhone” deal, interested Germans will have to sign for the “Complete XL” plan which costs 89 EUR per month. Sure that amount purchases you thousand minutes, 300 SMS and unlimited use of EDGE data and T-Mobile's hotspots, but that's still a lot for a monthly bill.

Alternatively, other “Complete” plans — L, M and S — can make iPhone cost 149, 199 and 249 EUR respectively, while at the same time delivering less minutes and SMS, and limited use (500 MB) of EDGE data in case of the “S” plan.

Obviously, we're wondering where this goes. Is T-Mobile having hard time selling iPhones to the 3G-lovin' German, or they are preparing for the 3G iPhone launch? We can only hope the latter is true… ;)

Panasonic to put plasma screens in mobile phones

At a press conference on Tuesday, Panasonic revealed its plans to use plasma technology in mobile phones. Apparently, the Japanese giant is already in talks with AT&T to deliver devices — or at least the technology needed — for the carrier's upcoming mobile TV service. The idea is to rival OLED, and be used for a wide range of applications, including office phones, cameras, gas pumps, vending machines, ATMs, automotive displays, appliances and computer printers. Display uses proprietary technology licensed from AbleComm, Inc.

Plasma screen on a handset? Sounds tempting, can't wait to see the first devices released, even though I doubt the first-gen phones will be that different/better from what we already have… Panasonic's official release which mostly deals with changes in the company's telecommunications and HDTV divisions is available on PRNewswire.
