Sony launched the Mylo 2 Personal Communicator to little fanfare recently, and Akihabara scored their very own unit for a hands-on Mylo 2 experience. That hugely beautiful 3.5 inch WVGA display is mated to a slide-out QWERTY keyboard with a 1.3 megapixel camera, WiFi (802.11 a/b/g), Skype support, 1GB on-board storage, Memory Stick Duo/PRO Duo card slot.
The Sony Mylo 2 apparently sports a perfectly sliding QWERTY keyboard, has an astonishing display, responds swiftly, and feels good in the hand. Unfortunately, video playback at a dismal 320 x 240 pixels puts the glorious 800 x 480 screen to shame.
Hit the hands-on video for more…

With all the push-emailing and that industry-setting QWERTY keyboard on RIM's BlackBerry handsets, we have the ability to see how all those thumbs out there could start to get worn out. If you haven't already injured your thumbs with all that tap-tapping, Jott wants save your thumbs from eventual injury.
The new Jott application is aimed at BlackBerry 8800, 8300, and 8100 smartphones and adds a “Reply with Jott” option to all email menus. With an on-screen prompt and a couple voice commands, Jott allows users to reply to emails with voice-dictated emails. Jott works over Bluetooth headsets as well.

Jott claims that voice-replies to emails are 3 to 5 times faster than tapping out the message with your thumbs - so you might be better off shooting out all those emails by voice rather than typing. It also opens up the possibility of replying to emails while driving or with a handful of, state, groceries.
To download the Jott application for your BlackBerry, point your BlackBerry browser to www.jott.com/bb and download the app.

The Finnish mobile phone giant isn’t about to let the iPhone take any of its dominant market away from Espoo. With the iconic iPhone redefining the user experience in mobile phones, Nokia has been toiling away with a touch-based competitor to the iPhone. With S60 Touch finally getting the touchscreen treatment that the Symbian platform was initially designed for, Nokia's on its way to pushing an all-touch device out its factory doors soon (well, not out of Bochum).
At the Evans Data Developer Relations Conference in Redwood City, CA., Nokia showed off their iPhone fighting Nokia Tube. The “Tube” looks a lot like the iPhone, but then any mobile phone (mobile device) with a full-body touchscreen and a minimal bezel looks like the iPhone.
Nokia showed graphical UI elements and demonstrated movie playback at the event. The Nokia “Tube” prototype still looks like the prototype we saw in November 2007. Nokia Executive VP said that ,”If there’s something good in the world then we copy with pride,” and it looks like they're holding to the iPhone-esque design.
The Nokia Tube will feature direct video uploading and support for Java, both things that the current iPhone does not offer. This could give Nokia a hand up on the current iPhone, but it remains to be seen how the S60 Touch OS will fare against the iPhone OS.
As far as sales go, Nokia's dominance in the market and the Tube's features are expected to out-class the iPhone. Forum Nokia VP Tom Libretto, derided Apple with the assertion that, while Apple has shipped 5-6 million iPhones since launch, “We've done that [sales volume] since we've had dinner on Friday.” To be fair, the sales figures for the world's largest mobile phone manufacturer are largely due to sales in the low-end (and Nokia's device portfolio is extensive, to say the least). It should be interesting to see how Nokia Tube sales fare against Apple iPhone sales, especially once the 3G iPhone goes live.
No release date has been mentioned for the Nokia Tube.

Is that Purple trim on the T-Mobile Sidekick Slide keeping you from making the jump to the a Sidekick handset? Worry not, Sidekick-fan. Word on the street has it that the exclusive T-Mobile provider, T-Mobile (of course), is planning to launch a color-revised T-Mobile Sidekick Slide with “Fire Red” trim. Fresh off its defective Sidekick Slide fiasco, T-Mobile is apparently aiming to refresh the Sidekick with a new color offering.
The information comes from a tip to BGR, so it's definitely still a rumor at this point. But, if the rumor pans out, the Purple-trimmed Sidekick Slide could be welcoming a new “Fire Red” addition to the stable in Might or early June.

Keep you fingers crossed, we'll keep you updated.

Having a hard time “hearing me now” inside a building, especially your home? Verizon Wireless has your back. The No. 2 US wireless carrier has announced that they intend to enhance indoor wireless coverage for their Verizon network by making femtocells available to customers later this year.
Femtocells are small-scale cellular base stations, typically designed for use in residential or small business environments. They connect handsets to a particular service provider’s network via broadband. The Verizon femtocell will route voice calls through a wired or wireless router and over your broadband data connection - a much cheaper alternative than costly infrastructure build-outs.

Sprint is already trialling their own femtocell solution, and is expected to cost $50 after subscription subsidies. We're looking for Verizon to offer their femtocell at a similar price point.

All this speak about Microsoft and Yahoo is starting to make me sick. Am I the only one who believes that this is all a ploy on the part of Yahoo to stall and hope for something superior to come along although it never will? Microsoft should not even think about upping its bid for Yahoo and even though Ballmer and company might know that, it looks like Jerry Yang is still living in a fantasy world.
Why should Microsoft increase the premium on Yahoo’s stock price to an even more inflated level? If Ballmer wanted the on the web firm badly enough, don’t you think he would have done that already? And to make matters worse, the current economic condition in both this industry and the macroeconomic environment is not conducive to a bidding war with yourself.
Is Yahoo a valuable entity? Of course. And with its sound business sense and profitable financials, it would make for a nice addition to any company’s portfolio. But the real problem is not that Yahoo is making money in this business, it’s the fact that it has very few prospects for growth when confronted with the goliath that’s Google.
In essence, it’s a major player in the on the internet world, but it’s not almost as important to Microsoft as Jerry Yang wants to believe.

It’s no secret — Grand Theft Auto IV has multiplayer modes. Surprise!
There are at least 15 of them actually, and the integration is seamless with the single-player experience, in a way that’s not unlike what Criterion Games pulled off with Burnout Paradise. Accessible any time, players can create, join, or search for multiplayer games by pulling out the single-player central character Niko Bellic’s cell phone with the touch of the d-pad.
Rockstar isn’t ready to reveal all of the mutiplayer modes, but they did give us a chance to go hands-on with four of the 15 plus that will ship with the game which hits shelves on April 29. Check after the jump for the first information on and screens of GTA IV’s multiplayer, including detailed information on “Team Deathmatch,” “GTA Race,” “Cops N’ Crooks,” and the cooperative scenario, “Hangman’s NOOSE.”
[Quick update/correction: This article originally stated that there would be 15 multiplayer modes. Rockstar was swift to correct me upon seeing the article — there will be more than 15 modes when the game ships. Sorry for any confusion, and might I state “more than 15 modes” sounds pretty sweet, eh?]

Oh, boy. EA has finally come out and announced a European release date for Rock Band, a game that has been out in America since last November. Sadly, that’s about as good as the news is going to get for European gamers; as I like to state when the American Idol champion is crowned, “It’s all downhill from here.” So here we go: Eurogamer has confirmed that Rock Band will be out in Europe on the 23rd of Might.
That particular Friday will see the release of the Xbox 360 version of the game — and that’s it. That’s right, folks: Rock Band will be a timed 360 exclusive in Europe; for now, all EA is saying is that PS3, Wii, and PS2 versions will follow sometime “later this summer.” Hm…I wonder if Microsoft had a hand in that. Regardless, the real kick in the nuts comes in the form of the bundling and pricing of the game and its peripherals.
For some reason that is unbeknownst to me, EA won’t give you the full package in one neat tiny box. That’s the way they did it in America, anyway ($169.99 for the PS3/360 “Rock Band Special Edition”). Across the pond, the “Instrument Edition” — which includes the drums, mic, and guitar only (no word on whether the pack-in guitar is wireless) — will cost you

Sure, Darth Vader has been a playable character in games prior to Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Let’s not forget that PS3 owners will have the chance to control him even before The Force Unleashed is released, by picking up Soul Calibur IV this Summer.
But, when was the last time you got to massacre Wookiees with the Sith Lord himself by using his plethora of Force powers? Though it may only be for the first level of the game, you’ll be able to do just that come this September.
Every new screen, trailer, and bit of info surrounding The Force Unleashed has me salivating over the game. I’m already sold on the concept, so please, LucasArts, keep the content coming!
