Details on unreleased handsets sometimes pop up in some unlikely places. The Sprint Palm Treo 800w is slated to release in a couple months, but that apparently has stopped a user from testing their own Palm Treo 800w on DSL Reports' website.

The user-agent data shows that the bandwidth tester was using a Palm Treo 800w on Sprint's network. Display resolution was apparently set at 320

Who knew the 3G (third-generation) data networks across the globe were involved with gang-life? According to Wikipedia, the 3G network technology is apparently “the third generation of gangster mobile phones standards and technomology, supersoaking 2G.”

This is what happens when anyone is allowed to edit Wiki articles.

3G is gangster

We knew 3G data networks were the hotness, but we didn't know they were G-A-N-G-S-T-A!

Props to Macenstein for the find.

HTC long-ago promised to release a graphics-improving update to appease disgruntled customers complaining of lackluster video performance. It's been a long wait, and after a current announcement that HTC is still working on that promised graphics software update for its higher-end Windows Mobile smartphones, there are new rumblings that HTC getting set to release the graphics driver update for its HTC TyTn II (Kaiser).

HTC TyTn II Kaiser to get software updateWord on the street has it that the HTC TyTn II will be getting a ROM update from HTC in the near future - most likely this month, and possibly next week! Unfortunately, AT&T Tilt (the AT&T-branded version of the HTC Kaiser) won't be included in the ROM update - only HTC-loyals with unlocked HTC TyTn II's will be getting that long-awaited software update.

More worrying is the fact that HTC looks to be crafting a software release for the HTC Kaiser alone. With no “future updates for any other phones that might have these graphic issues,” lucky HTC TyTn II owners might be the only HTC customers getting a slight bump in graphics performance.

iPhone-fighter from Nokia called iPerformerWe sure hope not. Nokia's known for pushing out myriad handset offerings ranging from the super-cheap, low-end to the ridiculously high-end, and belittling a certain competitor's sales figures. But they're not known for their intriguing codenames. Case in point, we're hearing the Nokia is internally referring to their S60 Touch OS-based iPhone-fighting handset as the “iPerformer.”

Right, regardless of the lame codename, there's also speak of the iPerformer hitting market with a widescreen touchscreen (of course), QWERTY keypad, GPS, NaviScroll, FM radio/ transmitter, WiFi, Bluetooth, Television out, and a Web cam. It's not clear what the “web cam” dealio is all about. Nokia usually knows what they're doing in the camera department so we'll just go along for now.

Launch window and pricing are still unknown, but we'll take whatever details on Nokia's iPhone-fighting iPerformer we have the ability to get at this point.

Sidenote: It's unclear if the Nokia iPerformer is the internal codename for the Nokia 5800 Tube, or the iPhone-killing touchscreen handset that's due to launch shortly after the Nokia Tube.

MotorolaRemember when Motorola was an innovator and trail-blazer in the wireless industry? Right, those days are long gone. Motorola is now looking to minimize their fiscal bleeding as they scramble to restructure their handset business back into profitable territory.

Back in the day, Motorola was the first handset manufacturer to offer user-downloadable firmware updates through its “iDEN Update Service.” The website was launched as a means to help iDEN handset owners stay on top of their mobile phone's software - it took the hassle out of having to take your handset into a retail store for a simple software update.

The iDEN Update page confirms that the iDEN firmware updates from Motorola are no longer available through Motorola Update Utilities.

There's speculation that Motorola is looking to integrate its iDEN Update page with the rest of the Motorola Software Update offerings. The move would make sense and falls in line with restructuring efforts.

Sidebar: Has anyone actually used the iDEN Update service?

HTC Touch Diamond at FCCIn a move that brings us one step closer to having the newly announced HTC Touch Diamond in our hands, the FCC has apparently started tinkering with the trim and sharp-edged Windows Mobile 6.1 smartphone from HTC.

With a completely revamped TouchFLO interface, that beautiful VGA touchscreen, and a grocery list of high-end features (more on that here), the HTC Touch Diamond is quite possibly the most anticipated smartphone (at least around these parts) to leave the Taiwanese manufacturer's R&D labs since the launch of the HTC TyTn II / AT&T Tilt (Kaiser).

We'll have to wait for HTC to make good on their promise to bring the HTC Touch Diamond to countries outside Europe and Asia “later this year.” Start saving up that couch-change!

Nokia E71With the Nokia E71 photos plastered across the blogosphere as the newest QWERTY-toting E-series device from Espoo, the smartphone is set to bring some style and class to business-users the world over. Now we're hearing that AT&T is actually working with Nokia on an AT&T-branded Nokia E71.

It's all speculation for now, but Boy Genius is reporting on rumors that AT&T will be launching the Nokia E71 in your choice of Black or White.

It would be great to see AT&T picking up this E-series contender. But, it would be  a shame if AT&T decided to cripple the device with an EDGE-only data connection.

Nokia has been working more closely with carriers, so it's not too far-fetched to think that the Nokia E71 will be hitting AT&T with a hobbled data connection. Let's just hope it doesn't go down like that….
