Following on neatly from my last story about Hands-On Mobile having worked on GH3M, I wanted to pick up on a point that was raised by The Inquirer - namely that GH3M is not available in the UK or Europe currently - the classic “coming soon” is I am sure applicable, but given it's success (in the US at least), it's a shame we don't yet have it. Therefore, to whet your appetite for this guitar-shredding thrash-a-long of a game, here’s some info about it:

g1.png

  • Rock out anytime, anywhere with this rhythm-based, three button game that stays true to the original.
  • Open with 15 jamming tracks, all taken from the Guitar Hero console series
  • Grow your set list with 3 new songs monthly
  • Play through 3 venues each with 4 set songs and an encore
  • Shred as your favorite characters on four authentic Gibson guitars, in three killer venues
  • Unlock guitars, earn accomplishments and break records
  • Hit the right notes to drive the crowd wild with star power!

Pretty cool right? So check out set list, some classic monsters of rock in there:

(1) Santana - Black Magic Woman
(2) Wolfmother - Woman
(3) AFI - Miss Murder
(4) Red Hot Chili Peppers - Suck My Kiss
(5) Alice Cooper - School's Out
(6) Pat Benatar - Hit Me with Your Best Shot
(7) Van Halen - You Really Got Me
(8) KISS - Strutter
(9) Smashing Pumpkins - Cherub Rock
(10) Stone Temple Pilots - Trippin on A Hole
(11) Matchbook Romance - Monsters
(12) Motley Crue - Shout at the Devil
(13) Black Sabbath - Paranoid
(14) The Allman Brothers Band - Jessica
(15) Scorpions - Rock You Like A Hurricane

If you want to see some more screens, and a trailer, you can go to the Guitar Hero Mobile website here.

According to The Inquirer, it's quite possible that Apple Corps (that's the Beatles' record company, not the Steve Jobs Computer company) will be creating a video game based on the Beatles music catalogue. The Inquirer also believes that because of this, we could get Mobile versions too!

The FT is quoted as saying that the two most likely candidates are MTV Games and Activision. The theory goes that as Hands-On Mobile worked with Activision on the hugely-popular “Guitar Hero 3 Mobile edition”, then they could be in the frame here too. Of course this is largely conjecture, but with a good degree of logic behind it I think.

My favourite independent Mobile kit retailer, Expansys, mailed me the other day to let me know about this cheeky new bit of kit from NDrive. In a neat development, the G800 is a Sat Nav unit that’s able to utilise Sat imaging, rather than the crude vector graphics we’re used to normally.

Apparently 29 major cities are mapped currently, and I'm sure this will improve over time - and from the looks of things, you can decide your perspective on the viewing angle, much as you can zoom in/out with most Sat Nav units.

There are some neat other features too, highlights below:

  • Choose between 4 diagonal perspectives, plus a vertical perspective to navigate in photo mapping
  • Voice prompts/Dynamic Routing/Auto re-routing
  • Routing Options – Shortest/Fastest/Car Mode/Pedestrian Mode/Tolls/Speed
  • Multimedia features - plays music, videos, watch pics and read e-books
  • FM transmitter - put your favorite songs in the G800 memory and listen to them on your car audio
  • Bluetooth receiver - turn your NDrive G800 into a loudspeaker of your phone calls
  • Games
  • Calculator

If this whets your appetite, then I'd invite you to mosey on over to the Expansys site and take a look.

Friendfeed goes iPhoneHere's a piece of news for all the iPhone users that are at the same time fans of the Friendfeed service. Friendfeed has launched the iPhone-optimized version of their site, allowing you to get in the loop with your friends activities while on-the-go.

And while we're happy to see Friendfeed going the “iPhone route” I can't quite understand their design decisions. Why on Earth they've placed the search bar at the very bottom of the page. Locating it at the top makes much more sense. Their idea seems to allow faster posting rather than browsing. There's a logic behind that move, but still I want to see the search field at the top, always. Period.

To give Friendfeed a try on your iPhone, simply point Safari to friendfeed.com and take it from there.

Sony Ericsson Paris spotted in new color

Even though we're not sure when, or even whether (now when Symbian Foundation is formed) Sony Ericsson will officially unveil the Paris, the device has been spotted in new color. Again it's “the wild” where some sneaky insider caught the black and orange version of Paris. We certainly hope the Swedish-Japanese handset maker won't give up on it. Paris looks like a perfect Symbian UIQ device, and I would enjoy using it as much as I enjoy my W960i. Ok, maybe even more. )

BlackBerry Curve 8350?RIM is reportedly preparing another BlackBerry for Nextel's iDEN network. And while you may wonder why would they invest their resources in iDEN, the fact stays that for people looking for push-to-talk service - Nextel rules. In addition, Nextel's service is still being used extensively by some industries, which RIM might want to target as well.

Apparently, the Canadian handset maker will make the WiFi-enabled BlackBerry Curve 8350 for Nextel by the end of the year, though it may slip to early 2009. And that's about all we know at this stage.

I have the ability to understand RIM wants to expand its market share by targeting as larger audience as possible. However, I don't quite dig RIM's idea to unveil the Curve to iDEN network users at the end of this year. Not that Curve isn’t a great device, on the contrary it gained quite a following, but the idea to introduce the Curve at the end of the same year when Bold and Thunder are introduced is kinda weird. Then again, Nextel's users don't have much choice anyways.

Google Talk goes iPhoneGoogle has released the web-based version of its Google Talk optimized for the iPhone/iPod Touch. The application works from Safari and looks pretty much the same as the GTalk desktop client.

Feature wise, Google made sure you can easily choose people you want to chat (add them to “quicklist”), search contacts and manage multiple conversations. However, because it's a web-based app, there are downsides too. For instance, when you navigate away to another browser window or application, your status will be change to “unavailable” and the GTalk session will be restarted when you return.

It's nice and everything but a surprise to see Google optimizing a whole array of its apps for the iPhone. However, I would recommend using some of the existing native chat applications (in case you’ve a jailbroken iPhone/iPod Touch), or web-based meebo.com which allows you to chat with your buddies who use other IM clients, too.

To use GTalk on your iPhone/iPod Touch, easy point Safari to www.google.com/talk and take it from there.

iPhone SMS text messagesFor those of you currently enjoying the free 200 SMS text messages that come bundled with your EDGE-only iPhone data plan, you're not going to enjoy AT&T's decision to cut the bundled text messages with the upcoming iPhone 3G rate plans. But, that doesn't mean you’ve to sit back and take it.

Here's an interesting way to use your mobile email application to send and receive free SMS text messages without AT&T's help:

  • Create a new email
  • The “To:” field should be filled out with your SMS text message target's phone number followed by “@teleflip.com.” Something like this - 1235551234@teleflip.com
  • Tap out your text message and send it out.
  • The message will be sent to the phone number that you entered preceding “@teleflip.com”
  • Any text message replies will be sent to your email address.

That's it, it's really that simple. Using the iPhone's incredibly integrated email client (that basically does away with any need for MMS - assuming your friends and family are wise to the mobile email) is definitely a novel way to send and receive SMS text messages, and we like it.

Alternatively, you can use the TxtDrop web-app to send free SMS text messages. Simply point your iPhone Safari browser to http://txtdrop.com/iphone/ and go about your merry text messaging way!
