The last time I was speaking about a Square Enix non-Final Fantasy RPG, it was Infinite Undiscovery. The game was bloody rubbish, too. With the taste of that game still bitter in my mouth, its publisher has a opportunity to redeem itself tomorrow with The Last Remnant, a game which our very own Dale North played at TGS and was quite satisfied with.

If you turn your console off, you will save energy ... wait, really? screenshot

In shockingly shocking news, a report has been published which suggests that if you turn your console off after using it, you will actually save energy. Yes, it sounds thoroughly crazy, but these people are experts!

“If you leave your Xbox 360 or Sony PlayStation 3 on all the time, you can cut your electric bill by as much as $100 a year simply by turning it off when you are finished playing,” wildly claims this revolutionary report. “With so many struggling in today’s economy – it’s important to realize there are easy steps gamers can take to lower their energy costs. And if manufacturers make future systems more energy efficient, they’ll be doing the right thing for consumers’ pockets, for our clean energy future, and for the environment.”

Sarcasm aside, the general message of the report is that consoles waste energy and are pricey to run, which is a fair enough assessment. The Playtation 3 is the worst offender, sucking up 150 watts per hour when active. The 360 is next with 119, and as usual the Wii is a goody-goody teacher’s pet crawly bumlick darling with only 16 watts.

Epic explains Gears of War 2's abstract ranking system screenshot

Ever wondered what exactly those little symbols next to peoples’ names are in Gears of War 2 lobbies? Well, you’ve probably worked out that they’re rank icons, but the fact that you’ve played loads of matches and it hasn’t changed is probably bothering you. It seems to have bothered a few people, which is why Epic has had to explain it.

The little symbol by your name is based upon your TrueSkill rating. TrueSkill assesses your wins and your losses and then decided how adept a player you’re. What it also does is use statistical history to predict who should win and who should lose a match.

Wanted Blu-ray features cheat codes for the videogame adaptation screenshot

Within every Wanted Blu-ray is a set of codes that can unlock different modes and features in the upcoming game of the movie, Wanted: Weapons of Fate. The five codes will work on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game. According to HDR (who found the codes), they’re hidden within the bonus features and not advertised on the packaging.

In case you were wondering, Swedish developer GRIN is handling the title. Like the codes, it was hidden on the floor of this year’s E3. You might remember GRIN’s other title, Bionic Commando Rearmed, which I believe turned out quite well for fans.

A list of the codes and where to find them is listed on the other side of the break. They don’t seem that spectacular, but I’m keen on the “Super Weapons” code. I hope the super weapons involve chicken rocket launchers or some kind of gravity gun. I think those two things have the ability to spice up any movie-based game.

Deus Ex 3 concept art shows a man smoking, nano enhanced lungs confirmed screenshot

A billion years ago, in 2007, Eidos Montreal quietly announced Deus Ex 3. Since then, only a teaser trailer and a few details have flown our way. The above concept artwork is from a new “sneak peek” of Deux Ex 3 at Gamereactor. The article and the source image have disappeared off of the website, but we’re guessing that’s just a coincidence — not a government conspiracy.

Either way, this is especially interesting but hard to examine. You see a man, whom you can only suppose is the protagonist Adam Jensen, smoking a cigarette in the foreground with a massive city looming in the background. I’m taking special notice of the hexagon on Jensen’s forehead, because it looks cool. I also dig the subtle “future” (it is set in 2027) take with this. That city and Jensen look familiar. It’s only a slight contrast from what you and I see on a daily basis.

If you didn’t know, Deus Ex 3 is a prequel to the original Deus Ex. That means this game will have practically have nothing to do with Invisible War. I’ll leave it at that.
