Despite Japanese consumers giving it the cold shoulder for a long time, it would seem that the Xbox 360 is finally starting to gain some real ground in the territory. Square Enix has noticed this, and is more than ready to keep working on the system.
“There is a growing interest in Xbox 360 among Japanese users, due to the release of familiar titles, the increasing appeal of overseas titles, and the excellent reputation of the Xbox 360’s network services,” says Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto.
The quote comes from an Edge Online article detailing the Xbox 360’s push into Japan and how it is finally starting to pay off. With the price cut and a handful of exclusives that have strong Japanese appeal, as well as shooters like Gears of War which have shown signs of popularity in the East, the 360 does have plenty of tools to gain market share.

Yesterday, an EyeToy designer told gamesindustry.biz that developers (Zoe Mode) for You’re in the Movies are using “technical elements that are not reliable” and that Microsoft has done a particularly poor job supporting its Xbox Live Vision Camera. This day, Zoe Mode’s executive producer Paul Mottram fired back by saying that the studio is pushing camera technology forward.
Certainly background segmentation is a non trivial task but feel we should embrace the challenge in order to move camera gaming forward. As with other camera games, there’s an element of user set-up required to ensure the technology works robustly but this is a small price to pay for the advantages background segmentation provides.
I like challenge embracement, I just wish this were with a different game. I really don’t think the crowd that’s rushing out to buy You’re in the Movies is particularly interested in the game even working. They just really like Burt Reynolds or running from pretend dinosaurs.

Back when we told you how Sony and Columbia Pictures’ movies disappeared off of Netflix right around the same time streaming service went live with the New Xbox Experience, some called the move a “f*ck you” from Sony to Xbox 360 owning Netflix users. It wasn’t that, but the timing was funny.
Well, the “not available” tag is gone now from most of their movies today. GamesIndustry.biz says that the Sony-owned Columbia Pictures flicks are good to go. EvilAvatar warns that the Columbia movies licensed through Starz are not ready yet, though.

If you were a Halo fan excited by Bungie’s upcoming not-an-expansion-but-not-a-full-game Halo: Recon, get used to saying this: Halo: ODST.

Rare is a developer that I desperately want to see flourish again. I know they have it in them to make great games, but these days, they always seem to get something wrong. When they announced that they were changing the new Banjo-Kazooie’s formula to vehicle creation, I figured that would be the wrench thrown into the works of this particular game.
As a massive fan of the original Banjo-Kazooie, I remained hopeful and was excited enough to download and play the demo right away. I found myself entranced by the game’s visuals and audio, but frustrated by the shoddy controls of the vehicles and the game’s apparent dependence on them. I tried very difficult to enjoy the game in its entirety, but I just couldn’t. But this wasn’t the end of the story for Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts and I. Regardless of everything that had happened in the past, I soon found myself at a checkout, exchanging my money for the full version.
Now that I have clocked in around ten hours with Nuts & Bolts, have my feelings changed? Are the cars as bad as everyone thought they would be? Are there still a zillion little doodads lying around that you have to find? I’ll tell you the answers you’re looking for, but it’ll cost you a hundred Musical Notes.
