Star Wars Battlefront III model images leak out, Jawas are short confirmed screenshot

There’s tiny question that TimeSplitters developer Free Radical Design was working on the unannounced Star Wars: Battlefront III. After the success of the first two titles (developed by Pandemic), it was a no-brainer, and rumors have recommended that the Nottingham, England-based developer was on board for number three.

Michael Phelps game to have action, also swimming screenshot

A billion years ago (in World wide web time) we brought you the thrilling announcement that developer 505 Games are actively working with Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps on new videogame “projects” slated to hit next-generation consoles and the iPhone in an undetermined timeframe. Specifics on the title(s) have been scarce at best. We couldn’t confirm that any of these projects featured swimming until recently when 505 president Adam Kline decided to talk Phelps with the The Daily News.

Kline, obviously excited about his new property, pitched it as a “pure action game,” that involves swimming. He left it up in the air as to what the action comment actually meant.

Swimming will be a part of it, but it won’t be set in an Olympic pool going back and forth. This is a pure action game.

He went on to say that 505 games believes the Phelps property to be the “next Tiger Woods project” and that it could “be here for the next 10 years.” He then confirmed that money would be spent marketing the title, which I find incredibly ridiculous. Marketing isn’t needed, Mr. Kline. Everyone wants a Michael Phelps game.

Granted, it’s a ridiculous use, but it’s something! Yes, rapping sensation (they still call it rap, right?) and videogame expert Soulja Boy has actually found something to do with the New Xbox Experience — he’s made a music video out of it.

Mr. Boy’s new song “Grind On” features the Braid hating sensation strutting his stuff in Avatar form. He doesn’t really do much, just spins around and mouths along to his delightfully charming little ditty. That’s about it really.

Nintendo Wii

The Mature Wii

(Credit: Nintendo of America)

Take-Two Interactive Software, the video game developer behind Bioshock and the Grand Theft Auto series, posted a quarterly loss Wednesday and forecast less than best performance, going forward. But the real shocker came from the company’s CEO, Ben Feder, who had some interesting things to say about Nintendo’s Wii console and Mature-rated games.

Speaking to shareholders, Feder stated that even though he believes his company’s “M-rated content…is much more appropriate for the PlayStation 3 or 360,” he thinks it’s incumbent upon Take-Two to “look at the Wii as a viable platform content across all” the company’s titles. According to Feder, “you can’t ignore the (Wii’s) install base. You just can’t.”

If that’s true, then why have the vast majority of developers “ignored” that install base? As Nintendo of America President, Reggie Fils-Aime, pointed out recently in a Forbes interview, “I will be able to say our licensees ‘get it’ when their very best content is on our platform. And with very few exceptions today, that’s not the case.”

So far, most developers have left the Wii out in the cold when it comes to Mature-rated titles. A quick search of Gamestop’s entire catalog of 392 available Wii games reveals that only 13 of those titles are rated Mature. Compare that to the Xbox 360’s 154 Mature-rated games, and the Playstation 3’s 60, and it’s clear that developers have tiny faith in the Wii as a “mature” platform.

You can’t argue with the logic: so far this year, not one Mature-rated Wii game made NPD’s top-selling list, even though mature games yield the most revenue.

Mistwalker to cancel third project thanks to the economy screenshot

This “economic crisis” business is funny when it happens to morons who put too much on their credit card and like spending money they don’t have, but when it affects Mistwalker, developer of arguably the ideal RPG of 2008, I start to give a crap.

AQ Interactive has announced that the third of Hironobu Sakaguchi’s planned Xbox 360 titles, Cry On, has been canceled. Cry On was an action RPG with a Nobuo Uematsu soundtrack and character designs courtesy of Kimihiko Fujisaka. The Lost Odyssey studio was to work with Cavia, but the game’s publisher no longer considers Cry On a wise investment.

Two free Springsteen tracks coming to Guitar Hero World Tour this January screenshot

While only some of you may love Bruce Springsteen, it’s hard to argue with free stuff.

This January, in conjunction with the release of Springsteen’s new album and his Super Bowl half-time performance, Activision will be offering up two free tracks for Guitar Hero World Tour.

Ninja Blade demo announced for Japan. Hope they like QTEs screenshot

If you are one of the three people interested in From Software’s Ninja Blade, you’ll be keen to learn that a demo has been announced. It’s only for Japanese Xbox Live members at the moment, but a demo for we filthy round eyes is sure to be imminent.

Set to launch on December 29, the demo will comprise of what looks like the section I played in Tokyo, feating thirty seconds of action spliced with five minutes of barely interactive quick-time-events.
