Microsoft confirms internal memory in new Xbox 360 Arcades screenshot

It had existed as a rumor for a while, but the news of Xbox 360 Arcades shipping with 265MB of internal storage has now been confirmed by Microsoft. Arcade units will no longer need external memory cards, coming packed with the tools needed to save a couple of games and remind you that you need a hard drive.

“We are constantly updating the console’s more than 1700 internal components,” confirmed an MS rep. “We can confirm that we are moving to internal memory for the Xbox 360 Arcade. The physical internal memory is the same size as the previous external memory units — 256MB.”

Is it just me, or has this generation seen a ridiculous amount of SKU releases and updates? It’s largley due to rise of the blogs that have seen this kind of stuff reported on more, but I still don’t recall the PlayStation 2 and Xbox having this much crap on the shelves.

And then we have the Wii, which hasn’t changed in all the time it’s been released, outselling the lot of it.

Left 4 Dead not turning heads, people too busy with Halo 3 screenshot

You’ve got to love how videogame consumers reward originality. Here we’ve a fresh, brand new IP with an awesome gimmick and excellently implemented four-player co-op … and people are too busy playing Halo 3 to care.

Left 4 Dead isn’t exactly breaking records in terms of how many people are playing it, coming in at only number seven in the Xbox Live activity chart. It has been beaten by nothing but established franchises with Halo 3, World at War, Modern Warfare, GTA IV and even Fable 2 charting ahead.

Today, Atari officially announced The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The news isn’t exactly shocking considering that a few days ago we caught a leaked video of a developer spilling the beans on the title. Regardless, there are a few interesting facts from the new announcement. The most notable one is that the game is being “built from the ground up” to better reflect the console experience.

That means new combat centered around the utilization of a controller and an entirely new engine to ensure both consoles are being used effecting. In addition to this the game’s developer CD Projekt RED are promising “a ton of other features that will play to the consoles’ strengths.” The fact that I will eventually be able to play The Witcher while lying down is nearly good enough for me.

Aside from the new the new engine and combat, it remains to be seen how much content will change from the original PC title. Generally talking, most PC-to-console games only add a few new environments and missions. Oh, and it is coming out quite soon. According to the press release listed after the break, expect it around Fall 2009.

Atari to bundle Rez HD, Lumines Live, E4 in one retail box screenshot

If there’s one thing Atari has done right, it’s downloadable gaming. Such classics as Rez HD, Lumines Live and Every Extend Extra Extreme have done pretty well for themselves. Well enough, in fact, for Atari to bundle all three Q Entertainment games together in a retail package.

The pack will hit in Spring 2009 and will go under the umbrella name of Q3 — meaning Qubed. Terrible name, but pretty good games.

Heroes Over Europe screenshot

Heroes Over Europe is the sequel to 2005’s Heroes Over the Pacific, which came out for last-gen consoles. This time, players will find themselves flying over England, France, Germany and even New Zealand as they take on Hitler’s dirty Nazi forces.

I got to check out a couple of levels during Atari’s Preview Tour and was rather pleased with what I saw. Fly on over to the jump to check out my impressions.
