Remember the fancy “Time Trial” mode in the Mirror’s Edge demo only available to those who pre-ordered the game? The one that require the fancy codes we gave away in a contest?
Well, now that the game is out, it’s not so fancy or special anymore — Electronic Arts has opened the “Time Trial” mode to everyone. Now players can use any 16-digit code to unlock the time trial mode … no fancy string of numbers necessary. This should work on both of the previously-released PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the demo, so if you already have that, you should be set.
In my review of the game, I stated that beauty of Mirror’s Edge was not its short and sometimes frustrating story mode, but the various “Time Trials.” Now everyone can check it out to see if they agree.

It appears Activision’s trademark gnomes are on the move, as the publisher just filed for trademark of “Blur” on December 10 in connection with “computer game software.”
While we’d like to think that this is a Guitar Hero game centered around the English alternative rock band, that’s quite unlikely. Taking into account that they barely have enough hit singles to populate a “track pack,” we highly doubt that. It could, however, be a third-person shooter featuring Blur singer Damon Albarn, powered by Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare engine.
Or it could be a game where the main character runs really fast … Or it could be a racing game, because “Blur” sounds like a pretty good name for a racing game … Or it could be …
Hell, you tell us. If “Blur” actually does become a videogame product, what could it be?

Unfortunately, I believe Xbox Original titles are region locked so Raze’s Hell won’t work with my Xbox Live account. This is most unfortunate, because based on this advert alone, which I found sitting in my inbox, I want Raze’s Hell probably more than anything else.
We already talked about this game being available on the Marketplace for 1200 Points, but this image was just too good to pass up. I really want to play this game, but I don’t fancy putting MS Points on a US account just to get a version that works with my NTSC Xbox.

Yesterday we passed along what we thought was a new trailer from Mafia II. It wasn’t. My bad. As you’ll hear a character in this new trailer state, bless me Dad, for I have sinned.

Political stupidity gets a slap in the face this day as the decision to ban F.E.A.R 2 in Australia has been overturned. Thanks to the country’s lack of an 18+ age restriction, Australia’s rating board refused to classify the sci-fi shooter. Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment has confirmed, however, that an uncut version of the game will indeed appear, rated MA15+.
“We’ve always believed in the merit of the game as an MA15+ title, and we’re pleased that the Review Board saw it our way,” said a WBIE spokesperson.
This is good news for Australian gamers, especially since games like Dark Sector and Fallout 3 have had to edit themselves in order to see release. One day, Australia will catch up with the rest of the developed world and have a ratings board that makes sense, but until that day, it’s nice to see little victories such as this.

Jeff “I’ll stop making games because Frogger is superior than Space Giraffe” Minter is getting impatient. According to the bearded animal fancier, Microsoft has been sitting on his latest work, Gridrunner +++, for months, and he’s not happy.
“We sent it off to [Microsoft] months ago, but they’ve just not said anything – we’re just waiting for them,” explained Minter when asked for a release date. “Basically I’m going to carry on with the PC version of it if I don’t hear from them soon, because they’re just sitting on the demo we sent them three or four months ago. We haven’t heard a thing.”
It might have something to do with the fact that Space Giraffe was a flop, something which Minter naturally blames on Xbox Live: “The thing with Xbox Live is that you have to basically get a lot done in the first couple of weeks, then the game goes into a bit of obscurity after that.
“We actually had some very favorable reviews of Space Giraffe, and if you look around, most of them aren’t bad. It’s just most of them came out too late, and by the time the superior reviews came out, the game was already off the front page [of Xbox Live]. So it was just a bit spoiled for us, really.”

Square Enix developer Hiroshi Takai is a total Xbox 360 fanboy, heaping praise upon Microsoft’s indestructible console and expressing a desire to continue working with it. His team recently released The Last Remnant, and he was talking on his experiences working on the 360 exclusive.
“It’s been the team’s first time working with Xbox 360 and the Unreal Engine,” he told Official Xbox Magazine. “In both cases the experience has been a positive one. In fact, as we’ve only just completed work on Last Remnant I don’t even know what my next project is going to be at Square Enix. However, I’m very much hoping it’ll be for Xbox 360 as it’s been a lot easier to work with than PlayStation 3.”
This just proves that Square Enix are EVIL TRAITORS if you ask me. So evil they’re. With all that treachery.
