Sweet baby Jesus. What on Earth has Sega done to these screens of Comix Zone and Golden Axe (I, II, and III), taken from the upcoming Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection, coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 next year?
The filter applied to these games to make them look less “16-bit” and more, uh — damn, I don’t even know … well, it’s hurting my brain. The good news is that it can be turned off, giving the games a more classic Genesis look and feel. Phew.

Honestly, I don’t know much about Genius Products upcoming PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 game Scratch. I do know that the game will be played with an turntable-style controller, and will feature over 60 licensed and original hip-hop songs. I also know that Quincy Jones Jr. (the son of mega-producer Quincy Jones) is involved in the game’s production.

There’s a whole slew of tower defense games available, and most of them are made with Flash and are free to play on the Internet. Personally, I’ve spent a lot of time procrastinating with games like Gemcraft and Desktop Tower Defense, but until now I’d never played a professionally made tower defense game that actually costs money.
Hidden Path Entertainment’s Defense Grid: The Awakening was recently released for Personal computer and will be coming out for XBLA next year, and it attempts to take the standard tower defense game that’s been around forever and make it as pretty and as slick as possible. Does the polish and presentation that comes with a retail game make it worth the buy, or are you superior off playing one of the many free tower defense games available?
Hit the jump to find out.

A tiny while ago, I wrote a rather damning appraisal of the Xbox 360’s Community Games channel, sharing my belief that almost each game on offer was garbage. I know that there are a few actual worthy titles to be found, but sifting through the utter crap takes a lot of time and hard work.
The Community Games development community took my words to heart, and there has been some discussion about what to do. One developer, the creator of Biology Battle, decided to take action and has asked that I review the game on Destructoid.
As a matter of disclosure, Biology Battle developer Novaleaf Software has given me the required Microsoft Points to download the title (in lieu of being able to offer review copies) and the review will hit this week. After discussing with Nick Chester, we think this could become a rather interesting way of separating the wheat from the chaff on the Community Games channel, as well as give XNA developers some much-needed coverage.
In essence, we will be presenting reviews as an open challenge to Community Game developers. Hit the jump for the full details.

As we reported yesterday, Microsoft has been slapped with yet another lawsuit, this one alleging that the platform holder knew all about the Xbox 360’s tendency to scratch discs yet did nothing to fix the problem.
Microsoft, to be fair, has made no excuses for this. No, why make excuses when you can just point fingers and downplay the problem? In lieu of trying to explain itself, MS has instead decided to argue the “other people do it too” defense, claiming that the disc scratch errors are “not unique” to the 360 and that “too much movement of any game console” will result in a scratched disc. Of course, “too much” can mean anything.

Since we mentioned earlier this day that F.E.A.R 2 was being unbanned in Australia, these two videos are hereby dedicated to our Aussie readers. All three of them!
The above “comic book” trailer is creepy as Hell, and has actually made me really interested in this title, despite being less than impressed with the original game. Everything I’ve seen of F.E.A.R 2 so far looks to be an improvement, so here’s hoping for a fun and scary FPS.
Beyond the jump, we’ve another video which I simply don’t understand. Just watch it and … enjoy … I guess.

If you thought your Avatar was looking a tiny bit too much like a filthy vagrant knave, then never fear! Microsoft is looking out for you with a new range of formal wear, allowing your twee tiny mascot to look spiffier than a Nazi at a cocktail celebration.
From ball gowns to cummerbunds (haha, cummerbunds), Microsoft has it all. The new clothing items are marked with a gold star in the Avatar Editor. As you can see, my own unsightly modify ego is sporting a rather smart bowler hat to go with his new tuxedo. God I’m so gay.
In fact, I believe that Microsoft’s new dress-up game is part of an overall mission to turn all Xbox Live users gay, thus ensuring they never procreate. A very wise move, and one I support. The full list of new togs, as announced by Major Nelson, are as follows:
For the gentlemen we have Blue Tuxedo (save that one for prom season) Black Tuxedo Shirt with Cummerbund Black Trilby Bowler Hat
For the ladies we have: Elegant Ball Gown Little Black Dress Formal Trouser Suit Elegant Watch Red 60’s Shades Strappy High Heels Platform Shoes
This is all well and good, but seriously, begin breaking out the Halo and Gears shirts. This gentle, non-threatening BS can only last so long. We want zombie masks and Freddy Krueger gloves, NOW!
