If any of you care, two new outfits for Lara Croft in Tomb Raider: Underworld are available. At the very least, Podcastle co-host Atheistium is excited. The rest of you, I doubt you’ve rushed to the nearest Xbox in anticipation.
The DLC is free, and features both the classic Lara costume and her updated wardrobe from Legends.

When I was nine-years-old, I went over to a friend’s house for his birthday. His older sister had Resident Evil: Director’s Cut, and all the pre-teens in the house went upstairs to see it. My twin sister and I watched up until Jill finds the zombie munching on some dude’s neck, a scene that scared us so badly that we were deathly terrified of zombies for six years. Imagine two dweeby twelve-year-olds sprinting up the stairs, begging the other to turn out all the lights in the home so that the lucky twin could make a break past the zombies that were surely waiting to get us.
So Resident Evil is certainly a franchise that has a history of scaring people. However, it has long been a complaint that the Resident Evil series jumped-the-shark in survival-horror with Resident Evil 4, and Resident Evil 5 looks to keep the trend going. This is a major drag for fans looking for the scary “dog-through-the-window” moments of the original, as opposed to the waves of enemies and hoards of ammo in Resident Evil 4.
“Well, I think there’s some truth to that,” admitted Mike Webster, Marketing Director for Resident Evil 5, “but I think we have maintained a lot of the roots within the Resident Evil franchise. Certainly with regards to the story and the characters, and that’s what people love about the Resident Evil franchise. There’s plenty of things that makes Resident Evil very distinct, and there’s the element of fear and the capability to scare. There’s plenty of that in Resident Evil 5. I’ve experienced a lot of it. We’re just able to that in the light now, as well as the dark.”
But will Resident Evil 5 instill a crippling fear of the undead for pre-pubescent children? Or will the constant threat of Gary Glitter keep them holding their breath under seven blankets pretending that stated blankets offer protection from a horrible fate? Not like I’d know anything about that …

Microsoft’s indie developer tool, XNA, is more than just a program that helps people create games. It can also create ambience … the smoky and crackly kind. Recently, a creator by the name of SniperED007 debuted his latest masterpiece – the Fireplace. It is a screensaver that mimics a real fireplace on your Xbox 360 for the low, low price of 400 Microsoft points.
If you’re skeptical that it isn’t breathtaking, check out this video of it in action. Fireplace gives users all the action of a real fireplace and excludes the mess. It also cuts out your father yelling at you to cut the wood, your mother crying because her drapes are being soiled, and the potential of burning things that aren’t wood.
While you could build an argument that the Snowglobe is a billion times more fun than the Fireplace, we’ve to cede to the majesty of the embers’ glow. If only we could reach out and touch the virtual fire. XNA needs to get a handle on 3D projection.

Recently, I’ve been trying to finish up Dead Space. I made it to the ninth level before having to quit to review the mess of other games that came out this fall. Because of an issue beyond my control, I lost my all my saves on my Xbox 360. The end result is that I’ve to play through the vast majority of the game over again.
I was angry about it until a few minutes ago, when I noticed something incredible. The bathrooms on the Ishimura lack urinals. For the majority of males, the urinal is a wonderful thing to pee in.The urinal is a no-nonsense, swift and efficient tool that drastically improves restroom time. They also keep males away from other bodily function containers that may have barf or other funky stuff on the floor around them.
Excluding tavern urinals, because those are always nasty.
What does this state about the people in Dead Space’s alternate future? Had mankind evolved to the point where urinating was done unilaterally with the same device? Is this a statement of solidarity between female and male space miners? Or did the traditional male urination stance shift from standing to sitting as humans began exploring the cosmos?
Curiously, the sinks are rather low.
