Rumor: Two L4D2 expansions named via PC demo screenshot

Some Left 4 Dead 2 demo code diggers might have stumbled upon the name of two downloadable expansions for Valve’s upcoming ZFPS.

Tucked in the demo code are a couple of illuminating messages used after the game boots people out of on the web matches for not having required content. As such, the two messages name the two bits of content needed to in order to play — the “Miracle Pack” and the “Apocalyptic Pack” — and even advise that the person download the vital expansions from Xbox LIVE Marketplace.

“You were kicked from the lobby because downloadable content was selected.n,” one of the two messages reads, according to a post on the Rage3D message board.

We’ve no doubt Valve plans to support L4D2 with downloadable content, but we can’t confirm at this time that (1) these files exist and (2) if these are indeed the real names of any unannounced bits of DLC. Chances are we won’t know until after the game launches, but then again, we’ve received DLC news before game has hit retail in the current past. We’ll let you know when we know.

Predictable: Modern Warfare 2 footage upsets people screenshot

It didn’t take long. Modern Warfare 2’s controversial footage showing civilians gunned down in an airport was confirmed only yesterday, and already people have decided to get offended and upset. For some reason, an Australian kids group has gotten itself flustered over the game’s controversial segment, although Modern Warfare 2 has never been marketed to kids.

“The consequences of terrorism are just abhorrent in our community and yet here we are with a product that’s meant to be passed off as a leisure time activity, actually promoting what most world leaders speak out publicly against,” states the Australian Council on Children and the Media. “We comprehend that it’s a game but … we’re not far off when you look at the images that you could actually put it on a Channel Nine news report and you’d think maybe that is real.”

Michael Atkinson, the man responsible for Australia’s awful age rating system, added: “Expecting game designers to be responsible by not glorifying terrorism will always lead to disappointment.”

Fortunately, not everybody has missed the point of Infinity Ward’s bold decision, with Electric Frontiers Australia lobbyist Nicholas Suzor demonstrating that he actually gets it: “Films often show the villain’s perspective and, by doing that, they get across the character’s story and the heinous nature of people who carry out atrocities. Games, too, are becoming more expressive, and are telling more involved stories … We might make an argument that these sorts of topics are not suitable for kids, but I don’t at all accept that it is unsuitable for adults.”

This, my friends, is only the beginning. Only yesterday did I predict that accusations of “glorification” and “trivialization” would follow in the wake of Modern Warfare 2, and the usual gang of reactionaries and ignorant, child-obsessed fools fail to disappoint me. And this is just Australia at the moment. I can’t wait for the British and American media to get their hands on this. And they’ll.

Bayonetta gets Western release date (load the Fap-Cannon) screenshot

Yes, I know. I only ever write about Bayonetta these days (apparently, writing less than one post a day on a game incorporates 100% of my average ten-posts-per-day quota), but I’ve legitimate news this time. Sega has today revealed a Western release date for Platinum Games’ sexy action title. North America gets the game on January 5, while Europe will be able to pick it up on January 8.

If you’re impatient, you can get the inferior PS3 version of the game via import, since it’s all in English. However, if you’re holding out for the Xbox 360 version or just don’t feel like spending the bucks, you’ve not got too long to wait. In any case, I am incredibly excited for this faptastic game. Of course, since every post I’ve ever written on Destructoid is about this game, you already knew that.

Hit the jump for the PR.

LONDON & SAN FRANCISCO (October 29, 2009) – In the week that SEGA of Japan releases the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 action game BAYONETTA, SEGA Europe Ltd. and SEGA of America Inc. can reveal that the perfectly rated and eagerly anticipated third person action title will be the first genuine triple A of 2010.

The Ballad of Gay Tony available on Xbox LIVE screenshot

As expected, the next GTA IV episode is now. The downloadable version of Grand Theft Auto: “The Ballad of Gay Tony” is live on Xbox LIVE Marketplace.

Weighing in at a modest 2 GB and priced at 1,600 Microsoft Banana Bucks, the latest episode brings new cars, new weapons, new game modes and, more importantly, a fresh narrative starring Luis Lopez, a protector of sorts for the nightclubs owned “impresario” Tony Prince.

As Major Nelson points out in his post, this episode is available on as a stand-alone retail disc, coupled with its predecessor downloadable “The Lost and the Damned.” This disc, dubbed Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City, is listed by the GameStop database as “shipping” this morning, so it might or may not be on shelves quite yet.

We’re playing this thing.

Hot off the heels of a rather interesting (and somewhat polarizing) single-player trailer, 2K Games has returned with yet another video, this time unveiling a brand new multiplayer mode, “Capture the Sister.”

As you might envision, this is a “Capture the Flag” style mode with a Rapture-flavored twist. Players will have to find Little Sisters, grab them, and then deposit them safely into a vent. Of course, other players will be trying to do the same. Watching mutated freaks fight over tiny girls is equal parts disturbing and hilarious, and it looks like quite a chaotic and crazy experience.

Hot new Final Fantasy XIII screens for you to glare at screenshot

As we trudge ever onward toward Final Fantasy XIII’s 2010 Western release, I am getting more and more eager to get my hands on it. It’s been an incredibly long wait, but the gorgeous looking RPG is finally a dot on the horizon, and now we have some new screens with English subtitles affixed, reaffirming the proximity of the localized version.

The screens give us a nice high quality image of Bahamut, as well as some new shots of Ifrit’s “Gestalt” mode and some beautiful environments. Really though, you know what to anticipate with this gallery. It’s a console-based Final Fantasy game — you don’t need more screens to confirm how incredible it looks.

So, do like the lady in the header image says — shut up and come quiet.

Rest easy, nerds — Cable is joining the ranks of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2: Not Fusion. Earlier this morning, publisher Activision unleashed the above video and accompanying images showing off the yellow-eyed and downloadable X-Man. He looks to be the traditional kind of brutish character with a gun. He has the ability to pound the ground and emit devastating shockwaves as well as shoot dudes in a circle while hovering.

Take note of Cable’s traditional appearance. I was able to recognize him, unlike MUA 2’s Bishop, another future character who was apparently redesigned and stripped of his beautiful, flowing hair within the last fifteen years. Hair is a glorious thing, Marvel — let’s not confuse me like that again.
