If you are the one who frequently uses web browsers, you must have noticed that they let websites to show you notifications. If you navigate your web browser to news or shopping websites, you should see a popup saying the website wants to show notifications on your desktop. If this is a cause of annoyance, you can definitely prevent them from asking to show notifications. Read on to get to know how to do it.
Google Chrome
Step 1: First off, you will need to click the menu button and then choose Settings.
Step 2: Once you are in the Settings page, click the Show Advanced Settings located at the bottom of the page.
Step 3: Under the Privacy section, click the Content Settings button.
Step 4: Scroll down a bit until you see the Notifications category, and check the box for Do not allow any site to show notifications.
Step 5: Even when you check the box, websites you have permitted to show notifications will still be able to show notifications. So, you need to click the Manage Exceptions button to reveal a list of websites you have permitted to show notifications and revoke the permission, if you want.
Mozilla Firefox
You cannot disable all web notification prompts in Firefox’s normal Options window. You will need to navigate to the hidden about:config page.
Step 1: Access the page by typing about:config into Firefox’s address bar and hit Enter.
Step 2: You are presented with a warning saying that using the about:config page can be harmful to Firfox. Just click I accept the risk to proceed.
Step 3: Enter notifications to the search box, and then double click the option labeled dom.webnotifications.enabled to change the setting to false, thereby completely disabling web notifications.
Apple Safari
Step 1: First, you are supposed to click Safari > Preferences.
Step 2: Choose the Notifications tab, and then uncheck the box for Allow websites to ask for permission to send push notifications. (at the bottom of the window)
Step 3: After unchecking this option, websites you have permitted to show notifications will still be able to show notifications. So, you will have to view and manage the list of websites.
