One of the best things when it comes to iOS devices is that you always get the latest updates from Apple. However, there are times when you do not want to install the update and you want to stop the iOS update process on your iOS device. In this case, if you connect your iPhone or iPad to a Mac or Windows PC with iTunes, you will be notified with a pop-up asking you to install the new version of iOS software every time an iOS software update is available.
If you accidentally choose to install the update, and you want to stop the process, we can help you out. In reality, the best shot for stopping the update process is to intervene quickly.
In this tutorial, we will show you how to stop iTunes from updating new iOS software.
Note that the below-mentioned step-by-step instructions only stop iTunes from downloading and installing the update, it does not stop iTunes from displaying iOS update notification every time there is an update available.
Here we go:
Step one: After you see the pop-up that informs you there is new software updates available and after you have clicked “Check for Update”, all you have to do is to act quickly to stop the update
Step two: You need to click the Download button in the top right corner of iTunes. After that, quickly click on the “x” button to stop the update process on your device.
Step three: Once you are done, you will notice that the progress bar has been changed to “stopped”. All you have to do now is to select the item in the download lists and remove it from the bar.
You can repeat the process the next time an iOS software update start downloading via iTunes. Note that all you have to do is to move quickly.
How to ignore an iOS update
Once you successfully stopped the update, you can prevent iTunes from checking the same update, you can choose to ignore the update. All you have to do is to check the box next to the “ Do not ask me again” option the next time the pop-up appears in iTunes.
That’s it! From now on, you can stop the update process and ignore the same update you stop. Note that the above-mentioned guide cannot completely ignore or end iOS software update because it is natively impossible.
