HomeKit is an Apple’s iOS-based framework for communicating with and controlling HomeKit-enabled accessories like smart lights, smart locks or a smart thermostat in a user’s home. But it’s not only you who can control such accessories, you can even invite family members, roomies and guests to control them. Steps to invite users to your HomeKit home
Step 1: Open the Home app on your iPhone that is logged into the HomeKit administrator’s iCloud account.
Step 2: Tap on the small arrowhead in the upper left corner of the screen to access your HomeKit settings.
Step 3: Once you are in, tap on Invite… which is below the People section.
Step 4: Enter the name of the person you want to invite.
Step 5: Once done, choose Send Invite in the upper right corner.
Step 6: Now, return to the main home settings page, and you should see the words Invitation Pending that appears under the person’s name and profile photo.
That’s it! You are done.
Steps to adjust a person’s permissions
Step 1: Open the Home app on your iPhone that is logged into the HomeKit administrator’s iCloud account.
Step 2: Tap on the small arrowhead in the upper left corner of the screen to access your HomeKit settings.
Step 3: Tap on the profile photo of the person whose permissions you wish to adjust.
Step 4: You are now presented with the two switches to adjust the person’s permissions, including Allow Remote Access, and Allow Editing.
- Toggle the Allow Remote Access switch if you wish to allow users to control home accessories while they are away from the HomeKit home.
- Toggle the Allow Editing switch if you wish to allow users to edit accessories, scenes, and people invited to the HomeKit home.
